Some 100 metres from Molendal lies Mookerheide, unspoilt heath surrounded by woods and farming land. Situated on the foothill of the Nijmegen lateral moraine, this heath has differences in altitude, in some places creating magnificent views of the Maas. Sheep and cattle are at pasture here. The St. Jansberg, a country estate with wooded hills, fields and meadows, is also within walking distance. The farming land is crossed by “hollow” roads. The wooded area is comprised of beautiful old broad-leaved forests and a coniferous forest. The Rivierduintjes area of natural beauty lies in the winter bed of the river Maas near Plasmolen.

It is one of the few unspoilt remnants of the original river dunes still overgrown with old hawthorn hedges. De Zevenbergen lies amid the sandpits and lakes. Beautiful old river dunes covered with oak woods where various songbirds brood. Maasduinen national park is a favourite. Its 4500 ha. are contained by the Maas and the German border. The park takes its name from the striking drifting sand ridges called parabola dunes, created towards the end of the last ice age when large parts of Noord- and Midden-Limburg were covered with a layer of wind-borne sand deposit creating sand ridges and horseshoe dunes. It is a stunning park.
